Story :Betty Mbitjana is the daughter of the renowned artist Minne Pwerle and the sister to Barbara Weir. Betty paints the Awelye, bush berry and bush plum dreaming, Betty Awelye paintings depict the designs that the women would paint on their bodies, and the dancing tracks which are made in the sand during woman’s Awelye ceremonies.
Woman pay homage to their ancestor’s show respect for their country and dance their collective maternal roles within their community. The women paint these dancing tracks on their bodies before ceremony is performed and the same designs can be found in Betty’s paintings today.
